Purpleheart (often written as Purple Heart wood) is an exotic hardwood from several tree species in the Peltogyne genus, native to Central and South America, especially Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, and nearby regions.
What it looks like
- Freshly cut wood is typically dull brown or grayish-purple.
- After exposure to air and sunlight, it turns a striking deep purple.
- Over many years, the purple color can gradually darken to a rich violet-brown.
